Most people with gallstones have no symptoms from them. In about 1-4% of people with stones, they can start to cause problems such as biliary colic, cholecystitis, jaundice or pancreatitis.

Gallstones are usually diagnosed with an ultrasound scan although other more specialized tests are occasionally required.

Treatment for gallstones depends on the symptoms that they cause and how they are affecting your daily life.
